Amazon, Blockbuster, Facebook to Launch Yahoo TV Widgets – ClickZ
TV is about to get a whole lot more interesting. Brand new Yahoo interactive TV widgets are set to launch in the next two or three weeks for Sony, Samsung, LG, and Vizio HDTVs that support the technology.
When a widget surfaces, the viewer can choose via the remote control to view free content, or purchase immediately downloadable content when offered from retailers like Amazon and Blockbuster. He also hinted that physical products which involve order fulfillment will eventually be sold through the widgets. YouTube offers free video content through its widget.
Yahoo expects that the TV manufacturers will make a big push to promote the Widgets feature for TVs during the holiday season and into Super Bowl weekend. Meanwhile, consumers will be needing to connect their living rooms to their home networks more than ever. MoCA Ethernet-to-Coax bridges along with a 4-port switch will give them a wired Ethernet connection for their HDTVs plus Xbox, Bluray player, and other connected CE devices.
Twitter (and maybe Netflix) On Your TV
More news about Samsung’s new widget enabled HDTVs that are coming out later this year with an additional twist.
Coming this summer: Two “premium” video on demand apps, which we think could be Netflix (NFLX) and either Amazon (AMZN) or Blockbuster (BBI). Samsung tells us its media player is capable of handling many popular video codecs and HD video.
This is certainly to be expected especially since the new Samsung Bluray DVD players have models with Netflix already a feature. That the TVs will be able to stream HD from the net over a MoCA link or some other home networking medium seems a logical extension.
